Apple has announced a redesigned MacBook Pro, bringing a touchscreen to the Mac for the first time.

The new MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display arrives in 14-inch and 16-inch models. Apple unveiled the laptops on October 28, 2026, with M5 Pro and M5 Max chip options.

The MacBook Pro touchscreen pairs with tandem OLED

The PROLED XDR display uses tandem OLED, with two layers of pixels that produce their own light. Individual pixels can switch off for deep blacks, without the halos that can appear around bright objects on backlit screens.

Apple says the display reaches 2,000 nits of peak HDR and SDR brightness, with adaptive refresh rates from 10Hz to 120Hz. The screen covers both P3 and Adobe RGB color ranges.

The touch controls let you scroll, pinch to zoom, rotate objects, and draw directly onscreen. The keyboard and trackpad remain part of the experience. Apple has redesigned the hinge to help keep the screen stable during touch input.

Dynamic Island and a lighter design

The new MacBook Pro design adds slimmer screen borders and a Dynamic Island for Spotlight, Live Activities, and Siri AI. The display measures 14.2 inches on the smaller model and 16.3 inches on the larger one.

Apple says the 14-inch model weighs 3 pounds, while the 16-inch model weighs 4 pounds. The laptops come in space black and silver.

M5 Pro, M5 Max, and the ports

The PROLED XDR models support up to 128GB of unified memory and 16TB of storage. Apple rates battery life at up to 24 hours, depending on configuration and use.

The connections include three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe, and a headphone jack. Wireless connectivity includes Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.
