Valve released Windows drivers for Steam Machine to run Windows 10 or 11. Installing wipes SteamOS, as dual-booting is unavailable. The release lacks official support.

Valve has officially released Windows drivers for the Steam Machine, allowing the compact gaming PC to run Windows 10 or Windows 11 instead of its default SteamOS. This move gives gamers more flexibility to use the system like a traditional PC.

🎮 Windows Driver Package

The newly released driver set covers the core hardware components needed to run Windows smoothly on the Steam Machine. The package includes:

  • 👾 Graphics driver
  • 🛜 Wi-Fi driver
  • 📶 Bluetooth driver
  • 💳 SD Card reader driver

💻 Installation Notes

Installing Windows currently requires wiping SteamOS, as Valve’s dual‑boot installer is not available yet. Gamers who want to switch between SteamOS and Windows on the same drive should wait until dual‑boot support is officially released.

Valve also notes that this is an initial barebones release offered as‑is, with no official Windows support if issues arise. The drivers focus on the essentials, graphics, networking, and storage, to make Windows functional on the Steam Machine.

🛠 Flexible Hardware

This release continues Valve’s approach of treating the Steam Machine as a true PC rather than a locked console. Gamers are free to replace SteamOS with any operating system or launcher they prefer, though the responsibility for setup and troubleshooting falls on the user.

Would you install Windows on your Steam Machine now, or wait for official dual‑boot support?
