Steam Controller emits Wilhelm scream when dropped.

Gamers have discovered a surprising feature in Valve’s new Steam Controller: it screams when dropped. A short clip circulating online shows the device letting out the iconic Wilhelm scream after slipping from someone’s hands, even onto soft surfaces.

The Wilhelm scream, a classic sound effect dating back to the 1951 film Distant Drums, has appeared in hundreds of movies, shows, and games. Its use here adds a playful twist to the controller, making accidental drops a little more dramatic.

Early reports suggest the scream is not overly loud and includes a cooldown, preventing repeated screams if it keeps bouncing around. Gamers trying out the feature have confirmed that the audio trigger is genuine.

Will you be brave enough to drop your new Steam Controller just to hear the scream?
