Discord enables end-to-end encryption for all voice and video calls.

Discord has completed its rollout of end-to-end encryption for all voice and video calls, making secure communication the default across desktop, mobile, web, and console. No manual opt-in is required, and standard calls now use encrypted connections by default.

The company began planning the upgrade in 2023 and started migration a year later. Its approach, called DAVE, was designed to provide encryption without adding latency or reducing call quality, even with participants on multiple device types in the same call.

Discord noted that Stage channels remain an exception since they serve as large public broadcasts rather than private conversations. The final step involves removing any remaining client code that could allow unencrypted fallback, ensuring all supported devices connect securely.

With this change, every standard Discord voice or video call now benefits from full end-to-end encryption by default. Will you be using Discord’s encrypted calls for your next conversation?
