The biggest update from the original 2022 announcement is the yearly price. Sony raised 12-month prices in September 2023, bringing Essential to $79.99, Extra to $134.99, and Premium to $159.99 in the US.

Essential is the basic plan, but it still covers what many gamers need.

One current note: Sony says PS4 games will be added only from time to time starting in January 2026, so expect the catalog to lean more toward PS5 over time.

Premium is the top plan. It includes everything in Extra, then adds the Classics Catalog, game trials, cloud streaming, and the Sony Pictures Catalog.
Premium is best if you care about older PlayStation games or want to test select games before buying. Cloud streaming also helps if you want to play supported games without downloading them first. Sony says Premium supports streaming for select PS5 games on PS5 and PlayStation Portal, with cloud streaming included as a Premium feature.
Premium is not necessary for everyone. If you do not care about classics, trials, or streaming, Extra is usually the cleaner value.
🔁 What Happened to PlayStation Now?
PlayStation Now is no longer a separate service. Sony folded it into the new PlayStation Plus setup when the updated service launched in 2022.
At launch, PlayStation Now subscribers were moved to PlayStation Plus Premium without a price increase at that time. That part is mostly history now, but it explains why Premium includes cloud streaming and older PlayStation games.
