DualSense Edge Preorders Start October 25
DualSense Edge is Sony’s new premium PS5 controller, and preorders are about to open for gamers who want more control over how they play. Sony has confirmed that the controller launches globally on January 26, 2023, with preorders starting October 25, 2022.
The big question is simple: is this controller worth watching, or is the regular PS5 controller still enough? Here is what Sony has announced so far and what to know before spending $199.99.
🎮 DualSense Edge preorders start October 25
Preorders for the DualSense Edge wireless controller begin Tuesday, October 25, 2022. In the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg, Sony says preorders will be available through PlayStation Direct while supplies last.
Deliveries are expected to begin on January 26, 2023 for PlayStation Direct customers in those countries. Other participating retailers are expected to carry the controller starting February 23, 2023.
The controller has a recommended retail price of $199.99 in the United States. Replaceable stick modules will also be sold separately for $19.99.
🎛️ What makes this PS5 controller different?
Sony is positioning the Edge as its first highly customizable controller for PS5. It keeps the familiar shape of the regular PS5 controller but adds more options for gamers who want finer control.
The controller supports:
- 🎯 Button remapping
- 🎮 Custom control profiles
- 🔧 Stick sensitivity settings
- 🕹️ Trigger adjustment options
- ⚙️ An on-controller menu for quick changes
- 🔁 Swappable stick caps and back buttons
For competitive games, back buttons may be the biggest draw. They can let gamers jump, crouch, reload, or swap gear without moving their thumbs off the sticks.
For single-player games, the profile system may be more useful. A gamer could keep one setup for shooters, another for racing games, and another for action games.
📦 What comes in the box?
Sony is including more than just the controller. The full package comes with the controller, a USB braided cable, several stick caps, two styles of back buttons, a connector housing, and a carrying case.
| Included item | What it does |
|---|---|
| Controller | Main PS5 controller |
| USB braided cable | Wired play and charging |
| Standard, high dome, and low dome caps | Different stick feel |
| Half dome and lever back buttons | Extra rear controls |
| Connector housing | Helps keep the cable locked in |
| Carrying case | Stores the controller and parts |
The case also allows charging through USB while the controller is stored inside, which is a nice touch for keeping everything together.
💸 Who should consider buying it?
The Edge is clearly aimed at gamers who want more control than the standard PS5 controller offers.
It may be worth a preorder if:
- 🎮 You play competitive games often
- 🎯 You want back buttons without buying a third-party controller
- 🔧 You like changing controls for different games
- 🕹️ You care about stick and trigger settings
- 💼 You want a full controller kit with a case and extra parts
🛑 Who should wait?
The price is the biggest reason to pause. At $199.99, this costs much more than a regular PS5 controller.
It may be smarter to wait if:
- 💰 You mostly play casual games
- 🛋️ You are happy with the regular PS5 controller
- 🎮 You do not use custom controls
- 🔋 You want reviews before buying
- ⏳ You want to see if stock sells out or returns later
There is nothing wrong with waiting for hands-on impressions. The features sound useful, but the real test will be how the controller feels during long gaming sessions.
🧠 Should you preorder it?
If you already know you want a pro-style PS5 controller, preordering through PlayStation Direct makes sense. Sony’s design gives PS5 gamers an official option with back buttons, custom profiles, and replaceable stick modules.
For everyone else, the regular PS5 controller is still a strong choice. The Edge looks useful, but it is not a must-buy for every PS5 owner.
Are you planning to preorder the Edge, or are you sticking with the regular PS5 controller?
