What Gamers Downloaded Most on PlayStation in August 2026
Sony has shared PlayStation Store’s most-downloaded games for August 2026, giving gamers a quick look at what was popular across PS5, PS4, PS VR2, and free-to-play games. EA Sports Madden NFL 27 led the PS5 chart in the U.S. and Canada, while Call of Duty: Black Ops II took the top PS5 spot in Europe. Fortnite also finished first on the free-to-play chart in both regions. The rankings cover PlayStation Store purchases, with Sony noting that upgrades are not included.
The top five PS5 downloads were very different by region
Sports and fighting games had a strong August in the U.S. and Canada. Sony’s U.S. and Canada PS5 ranking placed these games in the top five:
- EA Sports Madden NFL 27
- MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls
- Call of Duty: Black Ops II
- No More Room in Hell 2
- Hell Let Loose: Vietnam
Europe looked different. Call of Duty: Black Ops II led the European PS5 chart, followed by Minecraft, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, The Lord of the Rings: War in the North – Legacy Edition, and Mafia: Definitive Edition for PS5.
Older games still had a big place on PS4
PS4 gamers kept several older favorites high on the chart. Ghost Recon Wildlands was No. 1 in the U.S. and Canada, while Assassin’s Creed Odyssey was No. 1 in Europe. Red Dead Redemption 2 reached second place in both regions, and Batman: Arkham Knight landed fourth in both.
Fortnite and Roblox stayed on top of free-to-play
Free-to-play gaming showed much more agreement between the two regions. Fortnite ranked first, Roblox ranked second, and Once Human ranked third in both the U.S./Canada and Europe.
Marvel Rivals took fourth place in the U.S. and Canada, while Rocket League held fourth in Europe. Call of Duty: Warzone, Apex Legends, Fall Guys, eFootball, and Rainbow Six Siege Free Access also appeared in at least one region’s top 10.
PS VR2 had different winners
Virtual reality had its own split. Synapse was the most-downloaded PS VR2 game in the U.S. and Canada, while I Am Cat led Europe. Bootstrap Island placed third in both regions, and Beat Saber stayed inside the top four on each chart.
Sony publishes these charts each month, so September’s results will show whether August’s leaders can hold their spots or whether newer games push them down the list.
