Mario Kart 8 Deluxe now has a free Nintendo Switch 2 update.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Switch 2 Update Adds Eight-Player Races

Nintendo says one Switch 2 system can now run local split-screen races with up to eight players when enough compatible controllers are connected.

Nintendo’s version 4.0.0 update notes say Switch 2 can connect up to seven original Switch controllers. An eight-player setup needs at least one Joy-Con 2 controller or Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller.

Sharper Visuals and Faster Loading

The update adds support for the Switch 2 display and high-resolution TVs, giving Mario Kart 8 Deluxe clearer visuals. Nintendo also shortened loading times before races and battles begin.

CameraPlay Is Now Supported

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe now supports CameraPlay on Switch 2 with a compatible USB camera sold separately. Nintendo says CameraPlay works with two to four players and can also be used online through GameChat.

Online CameraPlay requires a Nintendo Account, Nintendo Switch Online membership, GameChat, and a compatible USB camera.

The free update is available now for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe owners playing on Nintendo Switch 2.
