The Witcher 3 Remastered Gives Digital Xbox Owners a PC Copy at No Extra Cost
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered will add Xbox Play Anywhere support when the free upgrade arrives on September 29, giving eligible digital Xbox owners access to the Windows PC version at no extra cost.
How Xbox Play Anywhere works with The Witcher 3
CD Projekt Red confirmed that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered supports Xbox Play Anywhere across Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and supported Xbox handhelds. The feature also lets players carry their progress between supported devices.
Xbox Play Anywhere applies to digital games bought through the Xbox Store, Microsoft Store, or eligible digital codes. Microsoft says supported games appear in the player’s library on both Xbox and Windows PC without another purchase.
Xbox Play Anywhere also shares saves, add-ons, and achievements between supported devices. Players use the same Microsoft account to access the game and their progress.
The remaster is already a free upgrade
CD Projekt Red says Remastered launches September 29 as a free upgrade for owners of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on Xbox Series X|S. The update adds improved textures and lighting, changes to combat and movement, a redesigned skill system, transmogrification, an expanded photo mode, and cross-platform mod support.
Xbox owners who only have the base game will also receive Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine at no extra cost. CD Projekt Red says digital owners will get the expansions automatically, while disc owners can claim those expansions through the Store.
What digital Xbox owners need to do
Digital owners should use the same Microsoft account on Xbox and the Xbox app on Windows. Microsoft says an Xbox Play Anywhere game will appear in My Library on a Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC once the account owns an eligible digital copy.
Players do not need to pay an extra Xbox Play Anywhere fee. The feature is included with supported digital games, so eligible Witcher 3 owners can move between Xbox and PC after Remastered launches on September 29.
