Walmart Is Finally Adding Apple Pay Support
Walmart is finally adding Apple Pay support at its U.S. stores after holding out for more than a decade. Walmart says Tap to Pay will start rolling out at select Walmart and Sam’s Club locations on August 24, 2026, giving shoppers the option to pay with eligible contactless cards, phones, and smartwatches.

The rollout will include Apple Pay on iPhone and Apple Watch, along with other contactless payment options. Walmart plans to bring Tap to Pay to all U.S. Walmart stores and Sam’s Club locations by the end of 2026. Fuel stations are expected to get support by mid-2027.
Shoppers will also be able to add eligible Walmart, Sam’s Club, and OnePay cards to digital wallets. Existing options such as cash, credit cards, Walmart Pay, and Sam’s Club Scan & Go will remain available.
Walmart had resisted Apple Pay and other tap-to-pay options for years while promoting Walmart Pay, which uses the Walmart app and a QR code at checkout. The new contactless option removes the need to open Walmart Pay for shoppers who prefer Apple Pay.
