Valheim 1.0 launches September 9, 2026, bringing Iron Gate’s Viking survival game out of Early Access and adding PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 to its platform lineup. Returning players do not have to buy the game again or abandon their old saves. The full release also adds the Deep North content, achievements, and full crossplay, while raising the standard price to $29.99.

Your old Valheim saves still work

Iron Gate says existing worlds and saves remain playable in version 1.0. New biome generation works properly in areas that have not already been explored, so players can continue an existing adventure instead of starting over.

Iron Gate still recommends starting a fresh world for the best experience. Players who keep an older world can receive new content, but previously explored areas can limit how new biome terrain generates.

The Deep North is the main 1.0 addition

Valheim 1.0 focuses on the Deep North biome rather than an Ocean biome overhaul. Iron Gate also says the update includes new content elsewhere in Valheim, along with optimizations such as faster saving and reduced microstutters when zones move in and out of memory.

Crossplay covers every supported platform

The full release is available on Windows, Linux, Mac, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. Iron Gate confirms full crossplay between the platforms, and servers continue to support one to 10 players.

Cross-platform save syncing is more limited. Xbox saves can be accessed on PC through the Microsoft Store version, but Iron Gate says there is no broader cross-platform save sync between the other versions.

Achievements arrive, but mods may need time

Version 1.0 adds achievements, and achievement tracking begins after the 1.0 update is installed. Some world modifiers can block certain achievements, including hammer-mode.

PC players who use mods should expect some disruption. Iron Gate does not provide official mod support and says it cannot guarantee that existing mods will work at launch. The console versions also do not support mods in 1.0, and Steam Workshop support is not included.

Valheim now costs $29.99

Iron Gate says Valheim’s standard price changes to $29.99 with the full release, with regional pricing differences possible. Anyone who already owns the Early Access version keeps the game and receives the 1.0 update without buying another copy.

Returning players can keep their current worlds, but anyone who wants the cleanest Deep North experience should consider starting fresh before heading into Valheim’s final biome.
