Sony released firmware updates for WH-1000XM6 and WH-1000X headphones, adding a gaming mode with Bluetooth LE Audio.

Sony has introduced a new firmware update for its WH-1000XM6 and WH-1000X The ColleXion headphones, adding a dedicated gaming mode that reduces audio latency.

🎧 Gaming Mode Arrives

The update brings firmware version 3.1.5 to the WH-1000XM6 and version 1.3.0 to the WH-1000X The ColleXion. Gamers can now enable the Bluetooth LE Audio Gaming Audio Profile (GMAP), which is designed to cut total latency to under 40 milliseconds. This includes 30 milliseconds for wireless transmission and 10 milliseconds for audio processing on the headphones.

⚡ Lower Latency With GMAP

GMAP provides four profiles, A through D, balancing speed and connection stability. Profile A targets minimal latency under 30 milliseconds, while Profile D focuses on maintaining a stable signal in more challenging environments. To take advantage of this new mode, both the headphones and the connected device must support GMAP.

📱 How to Update

The firmware update can be installed through the Sony Sound Connect app by navigating to the headphone settings and initiating the update process. Once installed, the new gaming mode can be activated for a smoother, more responsive experience.
