Sonic Racing CrossWorlds 2.0.0 Update Adds Duel Mode
The Year Two update for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is now live, and version 2.0.0 adds a new Duel Mode, a seventh Gadget slot, and 15 new Gadgets, Nintendo Life reports.
The update also starts Year Two’s character and DLC releases. Bayonetta is the first free Year Two character, and the Godzilla Pack is the first paid Year Two DLC.
Duel Mode and New Characters
Duel Mode is a 1-on-1 race with a Duel Boost gauge that fills over time and when you use items. It comes in a few forms:
- Rival Duel: Race CPU CrossOver rivals offline for rewards. Beating them also unlocks Bayonetta.
- Duel Match: Race one player online. Best-of-10 Competitions are coming soon and earn Duel Medals for horns, auras, and other rewards.
- Friend Match: A two-player Duel, with Local Wireless on Switch and Switch 2.
More free characters are on the way. McLaren Racing (Sonic) arrives later in November 2026, and Aigis follows in early 2027, according to the Year Two roadmap.
Super Slot and New Gadgets
The new Super Slot is a 7th Gadget slot that boosts Gadget effects. You need the Grand Master Plate, which takes 40 races, and existing players who qualify get it when they install the update. The update also adds 15 new Gadgets, including Hit and Run, Boundless Charge, Brake Charge, and Power Through.
Unlocks come faster, too. Existing players see the new race counts on their next launch.
| Unlock | Races Before | Races Now |
| Silver Plate | 18 | 12 |
| Gold Plate | 30 | 20 |
| Master Plate | 46 | 28 |
Festival and Online Changes
- New Festivals last 10 days, up from 3.
- Festival rankings use win streaks instead of Festival Points.
- Free Matches in World Match are unranked, so they don’t change your rank.
- Rings respawn faster in online modes, and online collisions cause less pushback.
Known Issues in Version 2.0
Before a Best-of-10 starts in Duel Match, the game shows “End Challenge” and “Round -1.” The text should clear when the first competition begins. A “Tries Remaining” message can also stay on screen after an event ends with races left, and a fix is planned for a future update.
