Sony tests PS5 feature showing player counts for popular games.

Sony is now testing a feature on PS5 that lets gamers see player counts for the most popular PlayStation games, offering data similar to Steam’s concurrent user stats. This update appears in the beta version of the console’s Welcome Hub and provides a clearer look at how titles are performing on the platform.

🔹 Player counts arrive on PS5

Traditionally, console player data has been difficult to track. Steam players can easily check concurrent user numbers to gauge interest, but PlayStation gamers generally rely on sales charts or third-party estimates. The new Welcome Hub changes this by showing the top ten and trending PS5 games along with their current player counts.

🔹 Early highlights from the beta

In the first batch of data shared online, Fortnite leads with about 14.6 million players in the last seven days. Popular titles like GTA 5, Call of Duty, and Minecraft each hover around 5 million players. These numbers give a rare glimpse into engagement levels on PlayStation.

🔹 Limitations of the feature

Not all PS5 games are included. Highly played titles like Roblox and some live-service sports games, such as NBA 2K, seem to be missing. Sony has not explained how it selects which games appear, but factors like revenue or publisher participation may play a role.

🔹 A new look into PlayStation activity

Even with gaps in the data, player counts in the Welcome Hub give gamers a more reliable snapshot of what is trending on the platform. For those tracking multi-platform releases, this feature provides a better sense of overall engagement across both console and PC.
