PlayStation Pulse vs Pulse Edge: What’s Different in Sony’s New PS5 Headsets
PlayStation has revealed two new PS5 wireless headsets: PlayStation Pulse and Pulse Edge. Edge adds stronger drivers, active noise cancellation, and more controls.
Both headsets share the core audio features
Both headsets use custom planar magnetic drivers, a speaker design built to produce detailed sound across a wide range of frequencies. PlayStation says the standard Pulse is tuned for fuller bass and Tempest 3D AudioTech on supported PS5 games.
PlayStation Link provides low-latency wireless audio, meaning less delay between the game and what you hear, on PS5, PlayStation Portal, PC, and Mac. Both headsets can also stay connected through Bluetooth at the same time, so gamers can hear phone calls or music while game audio continues through PlayStation Link.
Both models include:
- A USB-C PlayStation Link adapter
- AI-enhanced microphone noise rejection
- Rotating earcups that fold flat for easier storage
Both headsets come in White and Midnight Black.
Pulse Edge adds stronger drivers and more controls
Its planar drivers use twice as many magnets per driver as the standard Pulse. Pulse has four magnets per driver, while Edge has eight. Sony says the extra magnets are designed to produce fuller, deeper bass while keeping detailed sound.
The standard Pulse has an integrated microphone and built-in volume controls. Edge adds:
- A detachable boom mic with AI-powered noise rejection, plus a hidden microphone for use when the boom is removed
- Game-and-chat balance controls on PS5
- A wired audio/microphone jack
- An included carrying case
FAQ
Do both headsets have active noise cancellation?
No. Only Pulse Edge has active noise cancellation between the two new models.
When will Pulse and Pulse Edge launch?
Sony says the standard Pulse starts launching in select markets during the 2026 holiday season. Pulse Edge is scheduled to start launching in early 2027. Exact release days have not been announced.
Has Sony announced prices or preorder dates?
No. Sony has not announced prices or preorder dates for either headset.
Sony already sells Pulse Elite. Pulse Elite offers planar magnetic drivers, PlayStation Link, Bluetooth, and up to 30 hours of battery life, so the final prices will help show where the new models fit in PlayStation’s audio lineup.
Gamers who mainly want the new core audio features can watch for the standard Pulse first. Gamers who want active noise cancellation, a boom mic, more headset controls, and the stronger driver setup will need to wait for Pulse Edge in 2027.
