Nintendo has released the Virtual Boy VR accessory for the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. The standard version and a cheaper cardboard version are now on sale. Both are needed to play compatible Virtual Boy classic games.
Pre-orders have ended, and direct purchases are open. The accessory was first announced in September 2025, with pre-orders starting in December 2025. It is officially available in February 2026.
The Virtual Boy accessory is a VR headset that connects to the Switch. It is based on Nintendo’s original 1995 Virtual Boy console.
The standard model costs $99.99. Buyers need a Nintendo account and an active Nintendo Switch Online membership to purchase it. Access to the Virtual Boy – Nintendo Classics game library requires the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack plan.
Seven original Virtual Boy games are available at launch. Nine more games will be added later in 2026, including two unreleased titles from 1995.
A cardboard edition is also sold for $24.99. It works with the Switch, Switch OLED, and Switch 2, and serves as a budget version similar to past Nintendo Labo VR products.
The Switch 2 is listed for $499.99 on Amazon.
