Nintendo Direct September 2026: 8 Switch 2 Announcements to Know

Nintendo packed its September 9 Direct with new Switch 2 games, ports, upgrades, and release dates. The biggest reveals include a new 2D Metroid game, Kirby’s next 3D adventure, Monster Hunter Wilds coming to Switch 2, and Persona 6 joining the platform. Nintendo says the presentation focused on games headed to Switch 2 and Switch, with several releases arriving before the end of 2026. Here are eight announcements worth knowing if you own a Switch 2 or plan to get one.

Metroid Ravenous arrives January 28

Metroid Ravenous is a new 2D Samus adventure launching exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 on January 28, 2027. Nintendo also announced Samus and Chozo Statue amiibo figures, plus a Special Edition that bundles a Samus (Metroid Suit) amiibo and steel game case.

Kirby gets another full 3D adventure

Kirby and the World Beyond is a new 3D adventure built around freely moving through a larger world and using Kirby’s Copy Abilities. Nintendo has not given it an exact date yet, but the game is planned for spring 2027 on Switch 2.

Monster Hunter Wilds comes to Switch 2 in December

Monster Hunter Wilds launches on Switch 2 on December 4. Nintendo says the Switch 2 version includes previously released Title Update content and supports full cross-platform online multiplayer. Capcom’s Ascendance expansion is also planned for Switch 2 in 2027.

Persona 6 is coming to Switch 2

Persona 6 was confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2 during the presentation. Nintendo did not announce a Switch 2 release date in its recap, so gamers will need to wait for more details.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation arrives April 8

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is coming to Switch 2 as the next chapter in Square Enix’s remake trilogy. Nintendo’s Direct materials set the Switch 2 release for April 8, 2027.

Resident Evil adds three more Switch 2 games

Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition launch digitally on October 16. Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition include additional content from their original releases.

The Witcher 3 gets a free Switch 2 upgrade path

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered launches September 29 with visual and performance upgrades, gyro aiming, Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, and touch-screen support. Nintendo says owners of the physical or digital Switch version can get the Switch 2 version free through Nintendo eShop.

Star Fox gets a free multiplayer update

Star Fox gets a free Switch 2 update on September 29. Battle Mode will support up to four players on one Switch 2, add team-based online battles, and introduce three stages based on Katina, Sector X, and Venom.
