Mortal Shell II launches August 20, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Cold Symmetry’s standalone sequel expands the original action RPG with faster combat, deeper weapon upgrades, and a compact open world built for freer exploration. Xbox lists the standard release for August 20, while the $49.99 Devout Edition offered up to 72 hours of advanced access starting August 17. PC gamers can also play through GeForce NOW at launch.
Mortal Shell II expands the original combat system
Mortal Shell II keeps the series’ core idea of possessing fallen warriors, known as Shells, but gives each one distinct strengths and mastered abilities. Gamers can discover these warriors across the ruined world and use their different abilities to shape a build around preferred weapons and combat styles.
The sequel puts more emphasis on speed without dropping the demanding combat that defined the first game. Xbox describes the combat as faster and unforgiving, with a deeper weapon system and extensive upgrade options.
The sequel uses a compact open world
Exploration is less restricted than in the original Mortal Shell. Cold Symmetry has built the sequel around a compact open world, giving gamers more freedom to choose where to travel while searching for Shells, weapons, upgrades, and new encounters.
The structure makes Mortal Shell II a standalone sequel, so owning or finishing the first game is not listed as a requirement for the new release.
Devout Edition includes early access
The Devout Edition offered up to 72 hours of advanced access beginning August 17, three days before the standard August 20 launch. Xbox lists the standard edition at $49.99 ahead of release.
GeForce NOW supports Mortal Shell II at launch
Gamers with supported PC storefront copies also have a cloud option. NVIDIA confirmed Mortal Shell II as an August 20 GeForce NOW release, putting the game on the service the same day as its standard launch.
