Kernel Hearts Is Coming in September 2026 With a Free Demo Available Now
Kernel Hearts is planned for release in September 2026, and gamers can already try a free demo. The upcoming action RPG from Ephemera Games mixes roguelike runs, online co-op, magical-girl transformations, and fast combat. The current Steam listing confirms the September 2026 release window, while the separate demo has been available since March 31, 2026.
Kernel Hearts blends co-op action with roguelike progression
Ephemera Games describes Kernel Hearts as a multiplayer co-op roguelike action RPG about four magical girls trying to save a world covered in ash. Gamers join the M.A.H.O.U Unit and climb the Tower of Babel while fighting angelic enemies and bosses.
Combat lets gamers combine attacks, spells, movement abilities, and temporary powers during each run. Losing a run sends the group back to a laboratory outside humanity’s last holdout, where rewards can be spent on chips for the MAHOU.OS system. The chip system supports up to 256KB of upgrades, giving each run a permanent progression layer alongside the temporary abilities found during combat.
Magical-girl transformations also affect combat. Characters can use power taken from the tower to break the Heavenly Curse for a short time, damage nearby enemies, and enter a stronger form.
The free Kernel Hearts demo is available now
The free Steam demo launched on March 31, 2026 and supports both single-player and online co-op. The demo gives gamers a way to test the basic combat loop, character abilities, progression, and multiplayer before the full game arrives.
Epic Games Store also lists the Kernel Hearts demo, giving PC gamers another place to try it.
Kernel Hearts PC requirements are fairly modest
The Steam page lists 15 GB of storage for the full game. Minimum Windows requirements include 8 GB of RAM, an Intel Core i7-9750H or equivalent processor, and a GeForce GTX 1060 or equivalent graphics card. Steam says the minimum target is 1080p at low or medium settings, with performance varying during online co-op.
- Minimum memory: 8 GB RAM
- Minimum GPU: GeForce GTX 1060 or equivalent
- Recommended memory: 16 GB RAM
- Recommended GPU: GeForce RTX 2060 or GTX 1660 Ti, or equivalent
- Storage: 15 GB
The demo also lists SteamOS and Linux support on Steam, although the full game’s current store page should be checked again closer to launch for final platform and system details.
September is the confirmed release window for now
Steam currently lists Kernel Hearts for September 2026 without a specific day. Ephemera Games previously announced the September window in a Steam community update, and the store page still matches that timing.
Gamers interested in the combat style can try the demo now and wishlist the full game while waiting for a final September release date.
