If you're like me, you love a good challenge. You want a game that's going to push you to your limits and make you work for it. But there are some games out there that push harder than others—games so difficult, only the best will survive them. In this list, we'll be looking at 4 games that have frustrated players for decades:

Shadow of the Colossus

The difficulty level is high, but the reward is great. The story is simple, but it's told beautifully. You play as a man named Wander who travels across an immense land to fight 16 giant beasts and bring back their "life" to resurrect his dead lover Mono. The game was initially released on PS2 in 2005 and has since been remastered for modern platforms such as the PS4

The gameplay consists of exploring a vast world while climbing large stone giants called colossi in order to take out their life force (a light beam) which can then be used to revive Mono. There's no health bar or any other visual indicators during combat; instead, you have trust in your sword swing timing and stamina management along with the knowledge that each beast doesn't take too many direct hits before death occurs, so try not to get hit too much!

Dark Souls

Dark Souls is notoriously hard to beat (I died, and deleted the game after the tutorial), with a difficulty level that can only be described as "insane." The game has multiple bosses, each with their own unique movesets and varying levels of strength. There are also a ton of different enemies you'll face throughout Dark Souls, each posing its own challenge. There are many weapons in Dark Souls that you can use to fight off these enemies—but choosing the right weapon that best suits your character and play style is tough! Not to mention all the armor, various spells, and magic items at your disposal.

Cuphead

Cuphead is another hard game to beat, and it’s not just because of its difficulty level. The difficulty curve is real: it starts off easy and gets harder and harder until you're ready to give up. Then it'll introduce some new mechanics and make you feel like an expert again. You have to memorize every enemy attack pattern and how to dodge them—but there are so many different enemies with different patterns, it's impossible to remember everything! If you die, you have to start over from the beginning of the level—and if your partner dies too, then both of you have to start over from scratch! The game was released in 2017 by Studio MDHR and has gone on to win several awards for its art style and gameplay. The game is known for its hand-drawn art style, which looks like something straight out of an old cartoon or 1930s film set. It also features a jazz soundtrack that makes you feel like you're playing at an old speakeasy.

Super Meat Boy

The game’s difficulty comes from its fast-paced gameplay and the fact that, in order to complete it, you need to master a myriad of controls. You will find yourself failing repeatedly at many points in the game because there is a lot of trial and error involved. If you are patient enough with Super Meat Boy, however, you will eventually succeed—and that feeling when you finally do complete it is priceless!

Once you’ve beaten these games, you’re officially a gamer. But if you still want more of a challenge, there are always harder difficulties or even modes that make parts of the game harder (like Dark Souls). You can also try out some obscure titles like Demon's Souls or Nioh, which will test your limits as well!
