Xbox CEO Asha Sharma says Gen 10’s Xbox will be a family of devices, with a console at the center and options for gaming on the go.

Her comments came from an internal Xbox town hall covered on October 6. Windows Central says it obtained a transcript and verified it with trusted sources.

Microsoft and Partners Will Build the Devices

“We are moving to a family of devices for Gen-10,” Sharma says in the town hall transcript. Xbox plans to build some of the hardware itself and work with partners on other devices.

Gaming on the go points toward portable hardware, but Sharma’s remarks don’t name a handheld, reveal its specs, or say who would build it. A dedicated Microsoft-made handheld remains an interpretation of those comments, rather than an announced product.

What Does Gen 10 Mean?

A console generation describes a broad era of gaming hardware. New generations usually bring more powerful systems and new features, such as the hardware and software upgrades introduced with Xbox Series X|S.

The number refers to the wider history of consoles. Gen 10 doesn’t mean Microsoft is making its tenth Xbox, and several devices can belong to the same generation.

Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and Switch 2 belong to Gen 9, or the ninth generation. Sharma uses Gen 10 for the next era, which includes Project Helix.

Project Helix Is Designed to Play Xbox and PC Games

Microsoft has already shared details about Project Helix, its next-gen console. In March, Xbox’s vice president of next generation, Jason Ronald, said the console is designed to play Xbox console and PC games. Our earlier coverage explains the Project Helix console and PC game announcement.

Ronald also said Project Helix uses a custom AMD chip. Xbox plans to start sending early hardware to developers in 2027 so game makers can build and test their games. The developer hardware schedule is not a retail release date.

Sharma says Xbox will share more as its plans develop. Prices, a launch date, and the full device lineup remain unannounced in her comments. Gamers still need those details before deciding which next-gen Xbox fits them.
