You can check and calibrate Joy-Con sticks in the Nintendo Switch’s System Settings.

Before You Start

Use your Nintendo Switch and the Joy-Con you want to test. Update the console’s system software first. Nintendo’s controller calibration procedure also covers the Switch Pro Controller and Nintendo 64 controller.

How to Calibrate the Sticks

  1. Open System Settings from the HOME Menu.
  2. Scroll down the left menu and choose Controllers and Sensors.
  3. Select Calibrate Control Sticks.
  4. Tilt the stick you want to check in any direction for a few seconds.
  5. Follow the on-screen prompts to check how the console reads its movement and complete calibration.

If the Stick Test Does Not Show the Result

If you have finished calibration but the test does not reflect it, Nintendo recommends putting the console into sleep mode and waking it again.

You can also reset the controller:

  1. Press the controller’s SYNC Button once.
  2. Press another button to turn the controller back on.

Run the stick test again after those steps. The response should match the stick’s movement. Keep the test screen available while checking it.
