Acer’s DualPlay Mini Turns a Gaming Handheld Into a Tiny Laptop

Acer has shown off Project DualPlay Mini, an 8-inch gaming handheld concept that flips open to reveal a built-in keyboard. Acer announced the device on September 2 as a way to combine handheld PC gaming with basic laptop-style work in one small machine. The idea is simple: gamers can use the normal handheld controls while playing, then open the device when a keyboard makes more sense. Acer has not announced a price or release date because DualPlay Mini is still a concept, so gamers should treat it as a look at a possible future product rather than something they can order today.

How the DualPlay Mini changes shape

The DualPlay Mini uses a flip-and-swivel design that switches between handheld and mini-laptop modes. Acer says the built-in keyboard can handle email, documents, and everyday tasks without needing a second device.

The keyboard could also be useful inside games. Acer says gamers can open the device and pair the keyboard with a Bluetooth mouse for keyboard-and-mouse controls in first-person shooters. A mouse would need to be purchased separately.

Acer is still keeping many specs quiet

Acer has confirmed an 8-inch display, an Intel platform, and a dual-fan cooling system. The cooling setup includes one Predator AeroBlade metal fan and one plastic fan. Acer says its AeroBlade design can increase airflow by up to 10% compared with a standard plastic fan, based on the company’s internal testing.

Acer has not provided the final processor model, memory, storage, display resolution, battery size, weight, or full port selection for DualPlay Mini. Those missing details matter because they would decide whether the device could actually replace both a gaming handheld and a small laptop for some gamers.

You cannot buy the DualPlay Mini yet

The biggest limit is availability. Acer calls Project DualPlay Mini a concept only, while the separate Predator Atlas 7 announced alongside it is a real product planned for North America in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Acer could change the design, specifications, or decide not to sell DualPlay Mini at all. For now, the concept shows one possible answer to a common handheld PC problem: carrying extra gear when a game or task works better with a keyboard.
