Breaking News: Apple WWDC22 Keynote Unveils the Hottest Gaming Announcements That Will Blow Your Mind!
Aside from the redesigned lock screen for iOS and the Center Stage for iPad and Mac, these are all the major gaming announcements made by Apple at WWDC22.
Live Activities
Live Activities is a brand new API that allows developers to create glanceable experiences for live events! Think Overwatch League match stats displayed on your LockScreen. Of course, the Overmatch League App developers would have to implement this API into the app, but it would be cool for iPhone users to see Live Match Stats without having to unlock their phone!
Metal 3
Metal 3 was also announced at WWDC, but for those unfamiliar with the Metal Framework, it is simply DirectX for Apple devices. All Apple Devices other than the Watch use Metal as their gaming backend (for obvious reasons).
Apple introduced "MetalFX Upscaling" at WWDC22, which allows Apple devices to produce small, less intensive frames before upscaling them to the native resolution of the device.
They also announced the "Fast Resource Loading API," which shortens the path between the SSD where the game is stored and the System Memory, allowing the GPU to access the assets it needs to work on more quickly.
Background Download API
Apps will be allowed to download files in the background in the new updates coming to Apple devices this fall! Consider Genshin Impact, a 3.5 GB game. This game requires an extra 6+ GB just to be playable. Previously, you had to keep the app in the foreground, but with this new API, if enabled by the developers, you'll be able to download all 6+ GB while scrolling on TikTok or standing in line at Chipotle!
Game Center
SharePlay will be added to Game Center, making it even easier for users to join matches and play together while on a FaceTime call.
AAA Games coming to mac later this year!
Apple revealed onstage that No Man's Sky, Resident Evil Village, and GRID Legends will all be coming to the Mac later this year.
