GameBaby Case: Game Boy Controls Meet iPhone 15

GameBaby iPhone case featuring retro gaming controls and a phone displaying a pixel art game.

Over the years, we’ve seen our fair share of iPhone cases, but nothing quite like the new GameBaby from Bitmo Lab. This innovative product is not just an iPhone case but a throwback to the golden days of handheld gaming, combining the protection of a traditional iPhone case with the joy of Game Boy-style controls. This two-piece cover is designed specifically for the iPhone 15 Max and the upcoming iPhone 16 Max, offering a unique way to experience retro gaming on a modern device.

The GameBaby Case: Transforming Your iPhone into a Handheld Console

Bitmo Lab has described the GameBaby case as “phone armor with retro gaming superpowers,” and that description fits perfectly. The GameBaby is essentially an iPhone case that features built-in physical buttons, transforming your device into a retro gaming handheld console.

The case is ingeniously designed in two pieces. The top half is similar to any regular iPhone case, providing protection for your phone. The bottom half, however, is where the magic happens—it carries the physical Game Boy-style controls. When you’re not gaming, the lower piece can flip around to protect the back of your device. But when it’s time to play, flip it back to the front, and your iPhone is instantly ready for some classic gaming action.

The GameBaby case supports various button layouts, including those from the Game Boy (GB), Game Boy Color (GBC), Game Boy Advance (GBA), and NES. This is achieved through custom emulator skins that ensure perfect compatibility across these different handheld console layouts.

One of the most convenient features of the GameBaby controller is that it doesn’t require charging—there is no Bluetooth, no cables, just simple, straightforward plug-and-play functionality.

According to Bitmo Lab, the GameBaby case is still in development, so the final design might see some tweaks. They also clarify that while the case is designed to work with the Delta emulator, Bitmo Lab does not provide any emulators or game ROMs. The case is compatible with over 7,000 game button layouts based on data from video-games-museum.com.

Pre-Order Details and Pricing

The pre-sale for the new Bitmo Lab GameBaby case begins today. The first 1,000 units will be available for $19.99. After these units are sold, the price will increase to $24.99 for the remainder of the pre-order phase. Once the product officially launches, the GameBaby will retail for $39.99.

We’re eagerly awaiting the chance to try an early unit to see how it works in practice. With no official shipping date announced, those interested might want to act quickly to secure the early bird pricing.
