E3 Canceled Again: Major Gaming Event Faces Another Setback

E3

E3, the biggest event in the gaming world, has been canceled for the second year in a row, leaving fans and businesses disappointed. The event was set for June 13th to 16th in Los Angeles. Still, it got canceled because major gaming companies like Nintendo, Microsoft, and Ubisoft decided not to attend. This is a big hit to the video games industry, which has long relied on E3 to showcase new technologies and products. However, the landscape is shifting.

According to IGN, the cancellation was announced in an email to employees, stating that E3 2023 “simply did not garner the sustained interest necessary to execute it in a way that would showcase the size, strength, and impact of our industry.”

Even though E3 won’t happen, there are still plenty of gaming events to look forward to this summer. Geoff Keighley, a well-known gaming journalist, is organizing the Summer Game Fest on June 8th, which promises many exciting announcements. The Xbox showcase, focusing on Microsoft’s upcoming game Starfield, is set for June 11th. And on June 12th, Ubisoft will host its Forward Live in-person event.

While E3’s cancellation is a setback, it’s clear the event has been criticized in recent years for not keeping up with industry needs. Some companies, like Sony and Nintendo, have already started creating their presentations, like State of Play and Direct. However, with so many other events on the horizon, the gaming industry will undoubtedly find fresh and innovative ways to showcase its latest and greatest.
