Sorry… But, E3 2023 has been canceled

E3, the gaming industry's biggest event, has been canceled for the second year in a row, disappointing fans and businesses alike. The event, which was scheduled for June 13th to 16th in Los Angeles, was canceled due to a lack of interest from major gaming companies like Nintendo, Microsoft, and Ubisoft, who announced they will not be attending. The cancellation is a major blow to the video games industry, which relied heavily on the event to showcase emerging technologies and products, but it looks like times are changing.

According to IGN, The cancellation was announced in an email to employees, stating that E3 2023 “Simply did not garner the sustained interest necessary to execute it in a way that would showcase the size, strength, and impact of our industry.”

Despite the cancellation of E3, there are still a lot of gaming events to look forward to this summer. Geoff Keighley, a gaming journalist, organizes the Summer Game Fest, which takes place on June 8th and promises to bring a slew of exciting announcements. The Xbox showcase, which will focus on Microsoft's upcoming game Starfield, is set for June 11th. The Ubisoft Forward Live in-person event will take place on June 12th.

While the cancellation of E3 is a setback for the gaming industry, it's worth noting that the event has faced criticism in recent years for being out of touch with the needs of the industry. In response, some companies, such as Sony and Nintendo, have taken matters into their own hands by developing presentations such as State of Play and Direct. Nonetheless, there are numerous gaming events to look forward to this summer, and the industry will undoubtedly find new and innovative ways to showcase its products in the future.
