Apparently, 1 Line Of Code Was Causing Lots Of Apex Legends Bugs
Developers found that a single line of faulty code tied to the Nemesis rifle was the cause of the issues in Apex Legends Season 16.
We’ve all been there – you’re deep into a game, and suddenly, things go haywire. For Apex Legends players in Season 16, it was no different. Missing sounds, vanishing grenades, and ghostly particle effects plagued the experience. Respawn Entertainment’s developers have finally traced these issues back to a single line of faulty code connected to the Nemesis rifle.
The root of the problem was tied to the Nemesis rifle’s custom particle effects, which ramped up as the weapon fired. But when players stopped shooting, the game sent a “stop particle” request to the server. The catch? The server could only handle 128 requests for sound and effects at a time. Any more than that, and it would drop some of them.
Think of it like juggling – you can only keep so many balls in the air. Apex Legends has a limit of 128 “slots” for sounds and effects. If too many requests come in, some get dropped, leading to those frustrating missing sounds and visuals.
Tracking down this issue wasn’t easy for the dev team. With each new season bringing thousands of tweaks and code changes and no clear metrics or reproducible tests to follow, it was a tough nut to crack.
After much effort, they managed to pinpoint and fix the problem with the Nemesis rifle. However, they caution that only some sound or effect issues from Season 16 may be completely resolved.
It’s good to know the developers are hard at work behind the scenes fixing these problems. If you run into any issues while playing, make sure to report them so the team can investigate and fix them. Head over to EA’s Apex Legends Answer HQ to see if your bug has already been reported, or use the Contact Us Form and Report It if you don’t find it there. It might take a bit of time, but with some persistence, they might find the needle in the haystack.
