Apple has ended the Mac Pro line and removed it from its website. The “buy” page now redirects to the Mac’s homepage, where all references have been removed.
Apple also confirmed there are no plans for future Mac Pro hardware.
Mac Studio is the future
The Mac Pro launched in its current design in 2019 alongside the Pro Display XDR, which was also discontinued earlier this month. It was first powered by Intel, then updated with the M2 Ultra chip in June 2023. It has not been updated since and remained at a $6,999 price.
Meanwhile, Apple introduced newer chips in other models, including the Mac Studio. The Mac Studio now serves as the high-end desktop option.
The Mac Studio Had:
- M3 Ultra chip
- 32-core CPU
- 80-core GPU
- Up to 256GB unified memory
- Up to 16TB SSD storage
Performance scaling changes
Apple added a low-latency feature in macOS Tahoe 26.2 that allows multiple Macs to connect using RDMA over Thunderbolt 5. This enables performance scaling across systems.
Some reports had suggested this feature could be another nail in the Mac Pro’s coffin.
Some users may be disappointed, but the shift toward the Mac Studio had been expected.
